JOHNSTON CAVE ASSOCIATES was formally founded in 1985 but has evolved from Nicky Johnston's 1960's London practice. JCA undertaes high quality residential work for private clients across the UK but principally in London, the Home Counties and the West Country.
In the 1970's Nicky Johnston was assisted by architects Peter Cave and Ann Bessey. In the 1985 they formally joined forces to set up an office outside Oxford. The practice grew rapidly and, with several major projects underway, it moved to its current Oxford location.
In 2009, the ownership was taken over by the current directors Rory Duncan MA (Hons) Dip Arch RIBA and Christopher Lawler BSc (Hons) MSt (Cantab) and later joined by David Rhodes BSc (Hons) BArch (Wales) RIBA. The directors lead their own projects and have their own areas of expertise, but steer an enthusiastic team in the field of traditional architecture.
Nicky Johnston continued as principal and figurehead of the practice until the 1990's, and he remained an influence and inspiration. Peter Cave became principal towards the end of the 1990's, by which time the office had an accomplished and impressive track record of major projects and was well-known in the world of high-quality residential work, including new-build houses.
The Practice has has grown to 18 professionals with offices in Oxford and London. It has a combined architectural experience of over 250 years and a vast body of successful and award winning architectural work in its portfolio.
